10 Free AI Tools Tested for a Month: My Honest Review for Your Business
10 Free AI Tools That Are Actually Changing Everyday Work for Freelancers in 2026
For several years now, we have been hearing that artificial intelligence is going to change everything.
Blah blah.
But what does AI actually change in the daily work of a freelancer, entrepreneur, or small business?
To find out, I decided to test 10 free AI tools for 30 days: email writing, information research, visual creation, presentations, video editing, and automation.
The result is fairly simple: some tools genuinely saved me several hours. Others simply remained open in a browser tab... without ever becoming truly useful.
Here is my honest assessment, without the marketing hype.
Last updated: September 2026.
1. ChatGPT – The Essential Swiss Army Knife
Free: access with usage limits depending on the model and service capacity.
It is difficult to start this list any other way.
I use ChatGPT for several everyday tasks: rewriting professional emails, summarizing documents, finding content ideas, structuring articles, and preparing written content.
What convinced me
Speed.
A professional email that could have taken me 10 minutes can be rewritten in a few seconds.
ChatGPT is also very useful when you have a rough idea and need to quickly turn it into a clear structure.
What frustrated me
The free service has usage limits. Depending on the period and service demand, some features may also be temporarily limited.
Another important point: AI can make mistakes. It can present incorrect information with a great deal of confidence.
You should therefore verify important figures, sources, and information.
My rating: 9/10
If you only want to test one tool from this list, start with this one.
2. Perplexity – An AI-Powered Search Engine
Perplexity is probably one of the most interesting discoveries I made.
The principle is simple: you ask a question and the tool provides a concise answer accompanied by sources that allow you to verify the information.
This is particularly useful for competitive research, market research, or preparing a business report.
Need to quickly understand what a competitor is offering?
Instead of opening 15 browser tabs, you can start by asking the question directly.
The downside
For some very local, highly specific, or extremely recent searches, a traditional Google search can still be more effective.
My rating: 8.5/10
An excellent tool for research and business intelligence.
3. Gemini – The Alternative That May Surprise You
Gemini is Google's AI assistant.
I have to admit that I did not expect too much from it at first.
But its integration with the Google ecosystem can be particularly useful for people who regularly use Gmail, Google Drive, and Google Docs, depending on the features available with their account and plan.
The main advantage is being able to work more easily within your existing Google environment.
The downside
Quality can vary depending on the task and language. For some types of writing in French, I personally find other assistants more natural.
My rating: 7.5/10
Especially worth testing if your business already relies heavily on Google tools.
4. Canva – Design for Non-Designers
I have absolutely no artistic talent.
And yet, Canva has allowed me to quickly create clean visuals for articles, social media, and various projects.
Its AI-assisted features make it possible to work on visual content generation, background removal, and design adaptations, among other tasks.
What convinced me
Simplicity.
You do not need to be a graphic designer to create something presentable quickly.
The downside
Some advanced features are reserved for paid plans.
But to get started, the free version is already very useful.
My rating: 8/10
An excellent starting point for creating visuals without mastering Photoshop.
5. Gamma – Create a Presentation in Minutes
Creating a professional presentation can take a lot of time.
Gamma completely changes this part of the process.
You provide your content, choose a visual direction, and the tool generates a structured presentation.
During my test, I was able to create a first version of a client pitch in just a few minutes.
The downside
The result can sometimes feel fairly generic.
For an important presentation, I therefore recommend customizing the text, images, and layout before sending it to a client.
My rating: 8/10
Very useful for quickly creating a first draft.
6. CapCut – AI-Assisted Video Editing
Creating short videos can quickly become time-consuming.
CapCut makes several tasks easier with automated features such as captions, editing, vertical cropping, and various AI-assisted editing tools.
For producing content designed for short-form formats, it is particularly convenient.
The downside
Some features may be reserved for paid plans, and the interface can change regularly.
My rating: 7.5/10
An interesting tool for creating video content without spending your entire weekend editing.
7. LanguageTool – Better Writing and French Proofreading
ChatGPT can write a very good text.
But that does not mean it is always perfect.
LanguageTool can detect and correct many errors directly while you are writing.
For anyone who regularly writes professional emails, articles, or documents in French, it is a particularly practical tool.
The strong point
The browser extension works quietly in the background and can correct mistakes as you write.
My rating: 8/10
Simple, useful, and easy to integrate into your daily workflow.
8. Zapier – Automate Without Coding
This is probably the most interesting tool on this list for saving time on repetitive tasks.
The principle is simple:
“When an event happens in one application, automatically perform an action in another.”
For example:
Form received → add contact → send email → save information.
All of this can be automated without writing a single line of code.
The downside
The free plan has limits on the number of tasks and certain features.
But it is more than enough to understand the potential of automation.
My rating: 7/10
Very powerful, especially when your business starts accumulating repetitive tasks.
9. Otter.ai – Automatically Transcribe Meetings
Taking notes during a meeting can be tedious.
Otter.ai can transcribe conversations and make note-taking easier for certain online meetings.
The idea is simple: instead of spending your time writing everything down, you can focus more on the conversation itself.
The downside
The free plan limits and transcription quality can vary depending on the language and audio conditions.
My rating: 7/10
Interesting for people who regularly participate in online meetings.
10. Bing Image Creator – Generate Images with AI
Need an illustration for an article or social media post?
AI image generators allow you to quickly create visuals from a simple description.
This is useful when you want to illustrate a blog post without always having to search through a stock-image library.
The downside
AI models can still struggle with certain details, especially hands, small text, and highly specific elements.
My rating: 7/10
A useful tool for experimenting with AI image creation.
My 30-Day Review
After a month of using these tools, my conclusion is actually quite simple:
AI does not necessarily replace your work. It can mainly help you eliminate some of the repetitive tasks you do not enjoy.
Writing a first draft.
Summarizing a document.
Creating a presentation.
Preparing an image.
Proofreading a text.
Automating a repetitive task.
These are precisely the small tasks that can eventually consume several hours every week.
My 3 Essential Tools
If I had to keep only three tools from this list for a freelancer or small business, I would prioritize:
1. ChatGPT – writing, ideas, analysis, and productivity.
2. Perplexity – research and business intelligence.
3. Canva – visual content creation.
With these three categories of tools, you can already cover a large part of the everyday needs of an independent professional.
But ultimately, the most important thing is not collecting tools.
It is finding the ones that actually save you time.
